Weddings are often one of the most exciting days in life for couples. It's a grand event celebrating the next big step in your relationship, and a lifelong commitment to this journey through time together. The end result is wonderful, but the planning and execution to get there can be quite overwhelming. I recently photographed the beautiful wedding of Liliya and George, and Liliya shared some of her wedding planning hurdles leading up to the big day.
"Everyone talks about the ring, the perfect dress, and the date when they hear you're planning a wedding. "When's the big day?" they all ask in earnest. "Can I see the ring?" "Have you picked your dress?!" What they don't prepare you for is all the other little details that come along with planning a wedding.
Don't get me wrong, I was excited for cake tasting and shoe shopping, but what I wasn't ready for was the plethora of decisions thrown my way. Think of going to the grocery store to grab ketchup and being hit with 8 shelves full of different brands of tomato sauce. Now take into account the varying sizes. And don't forget to choose if you want a classic pour bottle, a squeeze top, a twist cap, or flip lid. Now multiply that by a hundred and you'll have an idea of what it's like to wedding plan. So. Many. Choices!
From table linens to silverware, table numbers to floral arrangements, guest books to wedding favors, I'm now convinced that wedding planning is the thing nightmares are made of. Big Pinterest board nightmares with ghosts cloaked in wedding veils and topiary monsters. By the time I got down to revising the guest list, I was ready to just elope. By this point, the good news is you've already snagged the venue, narrowed down the catering menu, and booked your flights out for the honeymoon. The end is near and there's no going back now!
All in all, there were definitely some hurdles and planning our wedding was pretty time consuming to say the least. But even though it sounds cliché, it's totally worth it in the end. You get to enjoy a beautiful day with the love of your life, surrounded by friends and family wishing you well. It may not always be a piece of cake, but those cake choices sure paid off, and I would do it again in a heartbeat."
