Questions To Ask Your Wedding Venue Before Booking

Have you every planned a wedding?  Although it’s fun, it can be a daunting question and it seems like there are endless questions that need to be answered before all of the planning is done. Typically, I talk about what needs to be done in order to have a successful photography experience.  But what about your venue?  I want to spend this post talking about questions to ask your wedding venue before booking it, because many times as a photographer I have had awkward or stressful experiences due to lack of planning with a venue.

So what questions do you need to ask before getting everything booked?  Obviously, you want to ask what dates are available, what their cancellation polices are, and how much they require for a deposit.  But there are some questions that you might forget about.  Below are three questions you may not think to ask:

  1. Is the venue handicapped friendly?-  You may or may not have someone attending your wedding who is physically handicapped, but either way it is a good question to ask.  It is always good to know that, if needed, there is handicapped access at your wedding venue.
  2. What is the weather contingency plan?- If it rains, is there an indoor space for your ceremony?  Do you get a refund if it rains and there isn’t an indoor space?  Although these questions will seem like common sense when it begins to rain, it is easy to forget during the planning process.
  3. Are you able to do a food tasting prior to finalizing the menu?- Again, this would seem like common sense when you are thinking about it, but during the planning process it can be very easy to overlook.  But, wouldn’t it be awful to forget to do a tasting and then have food that you don’t like?

The bottom line is, account for everything.  When you think you’ve asked every question there is to ask, find some more to ask. Planning is the key to everything running smoothly and everything running smoothly is the key to you having a happy wedding day.  Cover all of your bases, and I can promise everything will be perfect!

Until next time,
